Green Science Adventure Camp: Day 3

It's the middle of the week! Check out all the fun exciting thing we did on this exciting Wednesday!

Green Science Adventure Camp: Day 3

Today was Wacky Wednesday! To wear wacky clothes and to do fun things! On our third day here for our Green Science Adventure Camp, we continue working on some things while exploring new activities at the same time:

This we have done before, but it is so important that we at least do some things once more before camp ends! Such is the case with milking goats, to make sure the campers understand why we milk the goats and what we use the milk for. While one would milk the goat, the others who were waiting got to pet the baby goats and view our sheep in MSU Tollgate's livestock area.

Seeds & Travelling SeedsIMG_4088

Time to get messy! Making Pollinator Seed Bombs out of mud and clay, many campers got to get their hands full of mud and clay, mixing seeds in. The goal is to plant that Seed Bomb in the ground to then have and explosion of plants. Adapt-A-Seed was an activity where the campers learnt about how seeds travel through the air, water, and animals. They were tasked with making 'travelling seeds' out of pipe cleaners and popsicle sticks, to then test to see if their idea worked.

Keeping with the theme of Green Science, today's two recipes were a Spinach-Parmesan Dip & a Curry Cauliflower dish that some campers weren't sure of the taste, but right after the first bite, everybody was asking for seconds! Unfortunately, there were only enough cauliflowers for one serving each, but each camper got sent home with two recipe cards for their families to try whenever they like.

Forest Track TrapsIMG_4135

After trekking to the forest, the campers split into groups, and laid out paper with some inkpads to see if they can capture any footprints of animals in the forests. Afterwards, in about 2 days or so the campers will recollect the papers and see which animals they can identify through those tracks. We do have deer, foxes, and many many birds in our forests, so we shall see!

IMG_4142Pond Study

The campers had the best time taking the net and finding specimens inside the small waterways close to MSU Tollgate's pond. Lots of wet shoes and sock later, the campers laughed the entire time while doing the study, slipping and sliding their way through the rocks. A great time was had, while also learning about the ecosystem of our small waterways.
